Though Floyd Mayweather finally announced his next fight would be a rematch with Marcos Maidana, he did not announce the location.  Many assumed it would be at his usual spot, the MGM Grand in Las Vegas but there’s been murmurs of him possibly fighting at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Barclays Center was brought up as a possible location for his last fight against Maidana in May but it could be an even greater possibility this time around as Mayweather Promotions is close to receiving their New York license.

via MLive:

Floyd Mayweather’s promotional company is in the final stages of receiving a license from the New York State Athletic Commission.  Mayweather Promotions’ license application in New York has no additional issues and licensure is pending only a comptroller’s approval, NYSAC director Eric Bentley said today.

Since Mayweather left Golden Boy along with Richard Schaefer, the former CEO, Mayweather Promotions has decided to self promote their greatest boxer.  The problem there is they do not possess a Nevada license.  Receiving their New York license could quickly solve the problem.

“I have a bunch of fighters, I have to keep them busy, and I have to be in the position to do their fights in a bunch of different states,” CEO of Mayweather Promotions, Leonard Ellerbe said, in a tight-lipped response to the timing of the New York license application.

Barclays Center in Brooklyn has become a popular boxing venue and could host the fight. Madison Square Garden has an Eagles concert Sept. 13.

If Mayweather does decide to fight in Las Vegas he will have to use a front promoter.
